I took a few days off from the challenge. The weekend hit, then Father’s Day, and then I started a new job. BUT, I’m not giving up! One of my biggest takeaways so far is thinking about how much “stuff” we have that’s unused/unworn/unneeded, and that to buy anything new is just not at all necessary in about 98% of the cases.
So here we are at day 15. It’s time to get moving and take the steps to get the boxes and bags marked for donation to their final destination. I’m still working on this one because it’s more than a one-day job. Additionally, my husband and kids have seen me in action and are interested in participating. They are interested because they saw how easy it was for me to make some money selling on Poshmark, so they are currently looking for things to sell. Hey, whatever motivates them! And in the process are finding things to donate.
We’re working on collecting the items to donate, intending to take them to various donation spots by the end of the month.
And day 16! I’m excited for this one because it’s lighting a fire under me to work on a project I’ve wanted to do for a while. Day 16 is about polishing your possessions, ie, what can be fixed instead of discarded?
And my kitchen table and chairs are screaming at me! There is nothing technically broken with our table and chairs; it’s just that they are 24 years old, outdated, and have suffered through years of children, crafts, and family dinners. I’ve been wanting to refinish them and spruce them up for over a year now, and have been too lazy to get to it. But today it’s happening. Ok, it’s not fully happening, but what’s happening is the research into learning what I need to do to make this happen.
My husband is not as excited about this as he is about finding things to sell, but I keep reminding him how much money we’re saving by not buying a kitchen table and chairs!
It seems that as the challenge continues, my to-do list gets bigger and bigger, but I’m grateful for it!
xoxo,
Jamie
